Virtual Reclamation — Virtual Reclamation by William Knies

Virtual Reclamation

+ Personal Work+ 2023 - 2025

A series reflecting on a childhood struggle to find balance between the digital and physical worlds. With deconstructed and styled digital landscapes, Virtual Reclamation explores themes of loneliness, guilt, and neglect. The series incorporates direct references to existing videogame environments and gaming culture. Stripped of color and captured in a suspended moment, the pieces represent the journey towards reclaiming a digital space, paralleling my personal growth in overcoming addiction.

08.02.01Revisiting & Reflecting

It started off by revisiting games I used to play as a teenager.

While playing I had a deep feeling of regret, loneliness and guilt, and decided to explore why I felt this further.

I did a deep research of the gamefiles, scenes and features, reconstructing assets in 3D and making new original scenes, translating these deep feelings and putting them to rest.
